Welcome to the Beach Buggy Racing 2 Powerup Guide series! BBR2 features more Powerups than any other kart racing game, so there’s a lot to learn when it comes to mastering each one, and a lot of strategy to consider when building your Powerup “deck”. In these posts, we’ll explain what each collectible Powerup does, and give you some strategy tips for how best to use it.
In this first post, we’ll take a look at Projectiles — weapons that shoot out straight out in front of you (either singly or in salvos) to smack down your opponents.
Common
The Firework is the most basic Projectile Powerup. Each Shot will only crash one car, but at the highest Stage, you can fire it 7 times! Few things are more satisfying than nailing an opponent from a distance and speeding past their crashed car.
Common
A racer encased in ice will lose all traction and slide around the track. If they hit some debris, a wall, or another car, the ice block will shatter and crash their car. For best results, use it near a cliff or a tight turn.
Victim Tip: If you get caught in the cold without a Cure, try to stay away from the walls as much as possible by steering hard away from them. It’s usually worse to crash than to lose time while slipping around the track.
Common
Anyone zapped by the Remote Control will have to follow your lead. Your steering translates directly to theirs, so try not to use it on a straightaway, or they’ll get to sit back while YOU do the driving! Best to use just before your opponent enters a turn, or a crowded area where you can steer them into walls or debris.
Victim Tip: Best to Cure it ASAP!
Rare
Opponents shackled to a Ball ‘n’ Chain will drive a bit slower and have a tough time with hills, but the real grief comes when they try to turn, swinging the ball around and dragging themselves off course. If you can combo this with Earth Strike, Lunar Gravity or Big Tires, you’ll send them swinging wildly through the air and have no trouble passing them.
Victim Tip: The best option is a Cure, but you can also use Boost-style Powerups as a useful countermeasure, as they increase your Top Speed and Acceleration.
Rare
Toss opponents in front of you high into the air. It’s good to use this just before your victim gets to a tight turn, and even better when they’re entering a cave or some other place with a low ceiling. Your hapless victims will scrape the ceiling or slam into stalactites, losing precious time. Sometimes slowing people down is better than wiping them out! This Projectile will hit any racer in its path, so try to use it when there are several cars lined up ahead.
Rare
The Fireball is a single massive projectile that flies straight out in front of you and explodes on impact. Catch an opponent in the center of the Fireball’s Blast Radius and they’ll crash right away, but sometimes it’s better to aim at a nearby wall and catch them with the edge of the explosion, setting them on fire and slowing them down for several seconds.
Rare
Fires a salvo of bouncy rubber Dodgeballs out in front of you, which ricochet off walls until they hit something. If you want to maximize the sweet, hollow sound of dodgeballs crushing opponents’ souls, use this in a cave or building or any other place with walls.
Epic
Why fire one boring old firework when you can fire a never-ending salvo of fireworky destruction? It’s tough NOT to do damage with this Powerup, as long as there’s someone in front of you. It's also helpful for clearing obstacles in front of your. Epic, indeed!
